Thoughts and Things

designer's thought x

These are some of the designs I created when I submitted my portfolio to the program.

I chose these specific ones because I feel these were the ones that helped determine my acceptance into the program.

1. Tampon packaging design

I like the way the pattern reflects the general shape of a tampon, as well as the round edge. I felt monochrome color scheme was a good choice and having a select few mute sea foam green pop up to add a bit of interest was a nice detail. I'm proud of the design of the packaging (I figured out how to fold it without glue), I have to say that it doesn't hold up too well on the sides. Also, the size of it is something that needs some tweaking. Although I wanted a compact feel, I think this is too cramped feeling.

2. specialty/storefront

For my last project of Intermediate to Graphic Design, I chose to redesign the store front of the company Lotta Frutta. I think the perspective and relative size of objects in the space is represented well. There is a lot of detail like little tables and napkin holders placed in the window.
Maybe a setting or a background could add some more story to the store front because it's feeling a bit empty and lifeless.

3. bookcover

A strong point to this book cover was the illustrative aspect of it. I drew and painted the wasp, the cup and the background. The texture of the watercolor really adds another dimension to it. I think the use of watercolor gives the effect of splattered/ dripping blood, but since the color is changed to a more serene aquamarine blue, it creates interest and a mood. The visibility of the title on the cover makes it a little difficult to read.

4. campaign ads for brand

This is an ad campaign for Lotta Frutta. I decided to go with my illustration and draw some fruit. I felt that the colors and the illustrations represented the fruits well. The use of negative space and the blobs of circles around the fruit makes it more fun.
What could use some work is varying the fruits more than I did. Also the illustrations of the fruit all combined could be combined better.

5.  event poster

This is an event poster to advertise the Atlanta Jazz Festival. What I think works well with it are the colors and the mood it sets. Also the simple shapes and the layering of the shapes adds movement.
The information could be organized in a more appealing manner, but here they still work to inform you.
