My self portrait and timeline.
I'm pretty proud of the self portrait because it was the first time I really tried to paint in Photoshop. It was such a fun experience playing with the colors and the opacity of the brushes.
These colors go back to my blog name really. A Golden Asian. I pride myself on being Asian even though I'm like the 4th generation ABC (American Born Chinese). And I wanted to emphasize my eyes and haircut because I find those features I like the most about myself. I've been told I look Korean or Japanese simply because of my eyes. My hair has helped me to find myself, most definitely, since I consider myself pansexual. Which refers to the colors of the hat, which are the colors of the pansexual flag.
The timeline I'm okay with.
I tried several ideas before going along with this one. I felt that this scene was cliche and trite, but I kept wanting to draw it even though I sketched multiple other scenarios and ideas. Usually if I sketch it out, that de clutters my head to allow for more creative ideas to flow, but sometimes, like this time, an idea will just stick and stay after sketching it out.
I decided to use Photoshop again for this one but with a looser style of drawing. It was more about the mood and the items in the illustration. I played around with the different ways to change the colors and such. I found this blue ish green color to be strangely calming and ethereal. It kind of reflects how I have felt these past few days.
Some of the items you see highlighted are items that are constantly on my desk. No matter where I am, may that be at my parents house or at the kitchen table or in the library, these items follow. There is the pencil case, my tablet, computer, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo book, brush pen and my portable watercolor palette. I find that I tend to switch back and forth between digital and analog to continuous find new perspective in the different mediums.
